Frequently Asked Questions
Frequently Asked Questions
Please note: We're currently in beta (the development phase). Throughout the following instructions, keep positive reinforcement with treats and saying the phrase 'NOPLE' when your dog pulls. Depending on the type of dog and its characteristics, we believe this training harness truly stops dogs from pulling on walks.
1. How do I choose the correct size harness for my dog?
To find the right size, you need to measure your dog's neck (as directed in size guide) and chest girth (circumference).
- Chest Girth: Use a soft tape measure and wrap it around the widest part of their rib cage, just behind the front legs.
- Neck: Measure around the base of their neck where a collar would typically sit.
- Sizing Charts: Refer to NOPLEdogs specific sizing chart. If your dog is in between sizes, it is often best to size up.
2. How should the harness fit?
A properly fitted harness should be snug but comfortable. You should be able to slide two fingers between the harness and your dog's body at any point. The harness should not rub in the armpit area or restrict shoulder movement.
3. Is the training harness safe for my dog?
Yes, it is generally considered safe when used correctly and fitted properly. It is designed to distribute pressure across the chest and shoulders, reducing strain on the neck. However, harnesses that actively tighten can cause discomfort or chafing if ill-fitted.
4. How does the harness work?
The harness typically features a clip leash attachment point on the dog's back. When the dog pulls, the leash pressure gently steers their head down, discouraging forward momentum. Also see NOPLEdogs training harness Guide page for more information.
5. Will the harness stop my dog from pulling permanently?
The harness is a training aid, not a magic solution. It is most effective when combined with consistent, positive-reinforcement training methods to teach loose-leash walking.
6. Can I leave the harness on my dog all the time?
It is generally recommended to remove the harness when your dog is indoors, resting, or unsupervised to allow their skin to breathe and prevent potential chafing or irritation.
7. Is the harness suitable for puppies?
No. The NOPLE harness is designed for dogs with more developed bodies and coordination. Puppies, especially those under six months, may have delicate bone structures and unpredictable movement patterns that require specialised gear. Using this harness too early could compromise comfort or safety. For young dogs, it's best to use age-appropriate equipment until they're physically ready for structured training tools like NOPLEdogs.
8. Can I use NOPLEdogs harness alongside other training methods?
Yes. NOPLEdogs harness is built to complement a wide range of ethical, science-backed training approaches. Whether you're using positive reinforcement, clicker training, or working with a behaviourist, the harness integrates smoothly without interfering. It's especially effective when paired with clear communication strategies and consistent cues, helping reinforce desired behaviours while minimising stress or confusion.
9. Are there any safety issues and warnings with the usage of the harness?
- Not suitable for children under 3 years to use with a dog.
- To be used under the direct supervision of an adult.
- Introduce the harness to the dog slowly and positively.
- Do not use on puppies younger than 9 months old.
